- A British woman of Nigerian descent beat one-in-a-million odds to give birth to two white babies - She is married to a white man - Although she says her family has always been black as far as they can recall, doctors say she carries a dormant white gene A 35-year-old British woman of Nigerian descent has remarkably beaten one-in-a-million odds to give birth to two white babies. Doctors believe Catherine Howarth is the only black woman in the world to have two blue-eyed, white babies—three-year-old son Jonah and 10-month-old daughter Sophia. Both she and her white husband Richard were shocked on both occasions when nurses handed them their babies and they thought there had to be a mistake. Catherine says her family lineage has always been black. However, their initial disbelief turned to adoration for their miracle babies. The two miracle babies have distinctive looks. Catherine jokes that people keep mistaking her for a nanny every time she goes out with her

ASUP To Begin Warning Strike Tomorrow.

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics on Sunday declared a one week warning striking beginning from Monday (tomorrow) to February 5th, 2017, lamenting that the federal government had remained adamant to the plight of polytechnic education in the country. ASUP’s South-South/South-East Coordinator, Dr. Chika Ogonwa, who disclosed this to journalists in Asaba on Sunday on behalf of the national body, said its members would embarked on an indefinite strike if the outstanding issues confronting body were not resolved within one week by the federal government. Dr Ogonwa noted that the warning strike was ‘a fight’ aimed at redeeming nation’s education from total collapse, expressed anger over FG non-commencement of renegotiation of the ASUP/Government agreement of 2010 on the review of the Federal Polytechnics Act. The union had during its 86th meeting of the National Executive Council in August 2016 shifted the strike to January 2017 to give the current administration sufficient

Serena Williams Beats Sister Venus Williams To Win Yet Another Grand Slam Title.

Image
Serena Williams started playing tennis on potholed courts in one of America’s most notorious gangland neighbourhoods, but against the odds she has risen to become arguably the best player in the sport’s history. It hasn’t been an easy journey in a white-dominated sport steeped in tradition, but Williams has pursued her goals with a determination just as fearsome as the raw power with which she plays her shots. Strong but also quick, ruthless and fiercely competitive, Williams has been at the top for a generation, since she beat Martina Hingis aged 17 in the 1999 US Open final. So often she has been more or less unbeatable, and even at the age of 35 she remains the favourite whenever she plays, her capacities not noticeably diminished. Along the way she has been world number one for a total of 309 weeks — a span of nearly six years — and won major titles against some of the greats: Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin and of course, her sister Venus. Australia Open: Williams Sisters Rewrite Rivalry.

Image
An Australian Open electrified by the revivals of seasoned champions will bathe in the warm glow of nostalgia on Saturday when the Williams sisters contest the women’s final at Rod Laver Arena. Melbourne Park was where Venus and Serena Williams first clashed in a tour match in 1998 and nearly 20 years on, the Americans will add another chapter to tennis’s greatest sibling rivalry. In 1998, they were teenagers with cornrows and coloured beads in their hair sharing in an awkward second round encounter that 17-year-old Venus won in two sets. Venus hugged her sister, younger by a year, at the net and apologised for having to “take (her) out”. Today, 35-year-old Serena will bid for a record 23rd Grand Slam title in the professional era while Venus will strive for her eighth, and first in almost nine years. Serena drew level with Germany’s Steffi Graff on 22 when she claimed her seventh Wimbledon title last year but her crowning moment was delayed when, as top seed, she was ups
