FG suspends FUTA, FUNAAB VCs for corruption.

- The vice chancellors of two of Nigeria's most prestigious universities have been suspended for corruption

 - FUTA and FUNAAB Vice Chancellors were on Thursday, May 12 suspended by the federal government 


- Both university dons had corruption charges leveled against them by SSANU On Thursday, May 11, the Nigerian government suspended the vice chancellors of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof Adebiyi Daramola and Prof Olusola Oyewole respectively. 

This was following allegations leveled against them by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Wednesday, May 10. SSANU had called for the sack of four Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities over alleged corruption. FUTA VC Prof Adebiyi Daramola 

Among the four VCs listed by SSANU were Daramola and Oyewole. The letter of suspension signed by Dr Hussaini Adamu, the acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, indicated that they were suspended in connection with their ongoing trial at the behest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). 

 The two university dons were instructed to handover to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellors of their respective institutions. FUNAAB VC Prof Olusola Oyewole.


 According to Daily Post, Mrs Emi’ Alawode, the head of Directorate of Public Relations in FUNAAB had this to say: “Consultations are in progress with the university administration on the true position of things, while a formal statement will be issued in due course.

“Meanwhile, all normal academic and administrative activities are ongoing unabated, in the university." Surprisingly Daramola, the FUTA VC is due for retirement this month. 

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com gathered that a 500level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) was allegedly shot dead by the police during a peaceful protest. 

The deceased identified as Prince Ayilumo Julius Adeniran, had gone home to Ekiti state, for the holidays and had decided to join the Igbara Odo youth for a peaceful protest, when he met his untimely death. 

Julius had been hit when a bullet shot into the air by the police who were trying to dismiss the crowd, hit him instead.
