- He notes that President Buhari's allegation is not political but borne out of what his aides told him
Senator Olamilekan Adeola, a member of the Senate committee on appropriation and finance, has explained that the alteration of the 2018 budget by the lawmakers was in the interest of Nigerians.
Vanguard reports that Adeola spoke in Abuja in response to President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement on the National Assembly’s alleged padding of the 2018 budget.
The report quoted Adeola as saying that the alteration was done in the interest of good Nigerians and in accordance with the stipulate law.
Adeola, who represents Lagos West district, reportedly challenged the executive arm to publish its budget and the deductions carried out by the lawmakers.
He said the National Assembly will also publish its own budget and deductions adding that Nigerians would be shocked when details are revealed. “It is all misconceptions. All the allegations made by the president will soon be presented to the public. “Whatever reservations the president had about the budget, we are the representatives of the people. “We have a duty to look into whatever the President had presented and come up with what is best for the country. “By the time we come out with our own position, Nigerians will be shocked.
Let them publish their own and we also publish our own,” he said.
He, however, argued that the president was not political with his allegation but that he spoke out of what was presented to him by his aides.
It was earlier reported that the National Assembly explained why it delayed the 2018 budget and made a cut of N347 billion in the allocations to 4,700 projects submitted for consideration and why it introduced new 6,403 projects amounting to N578 billion.
